Medium voltage connects high- and low-voltage grids and enables energy supply for industry, large facilities, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Medium voltage refers to a voltage range in the electricity grid between 1 kV and 36 kV (1,000–36,000 volts). It is the network level between high voltage (used for long-distance transmission) and low voltage (used by end consumers). Medium voltage is mainly used for the regional distribution of electrical energy, for example to supply commercial and industrial facilities, large building complexes, or to connect decentralized energy systems.
In the electricity grid, the medium-voltage level acts as the link between high-voltage networks (110 kV and above), which transmit electricity over long distances, and low-voltage networks (up to 1 kV), which supply households, small businesses, and municipal buildings.
Medium-voltage connections are usually implemented via transformer substations and require specialized technical equipment such as switchgear and protection systems.
They must comply with technical connection requirements (TAB) and relevant VDE standards, particularly VDE-AR-N 4110 (Technical Rules for Medium Voltage Connections).

At the same time, they enable higher connection capacity, improved grid stability, and participation in electricity markets or flexibility services.
